Focused on meeting the unique needs of a diverse set of teens while guiding them through an artistic exploration of a novel

Artifact Justification

The project I designed for my students at the La Conner Learning Community provides ample evidence of my understanding and knowledge of development and learning processes. Bringing together the disciplines of geometry, English language arts, civics and visual arts, I have woven together a six-week unit that guides students on intersecting paths through the novel A Gentleman in Moscow. This artifact includes pages from the student workbooks I've created along with a list of resources I've accumulated during my planning.

A strength in this design is the adaptability of the project to mold and fit the needs of each student. Students will work in two disciplines, creating portfolios of artistic and visual representations of the ideas they are encountering. Each student will contribute a piece to a final art exhibition, a culmination of the work the students have done. The collaborative, yet individualized structure of the project provides space for students to grow in all areas at their own pace.
