Using candy to model U.S. Interventions around the globe

Artifact Justification
During Practicum II, I planned and taught a unit on foreign affairs for U.S. History. This activity, which helped students orient themselves with relations between the U.S. and their group's chosen country, also guided students through several exercises in prompting Chat Gpt. To justify this artifact I would like to point out the key strategic elements that make it an example of my strength in this area:
student buy-in
skill development
visual representation
reward for effort
small groups
independence
strong pacing
Breakdown of the Strategies Used
Chat Gpt was used as a hook while also providing skills training in the latest technology. Students were given suggested prompts to use to investigate the timeline of foreign affairs with a specific country, ask for poems or analogies explaining the relationship between the two countries based on student interests and get a list of characters and their roles in the story.
Students were then tasked with visually displaying what they learned using a map, colored pencils and gummy candy. The gummy candies were used at the tail end of the lesson, providing a carrot to make it through to the final steps. Seeing a neighboring group be served a plate of worms, bears and Sour Patch Kids proved to be quite motivating for groups making slow progress.
Students worked in small groups and were free to work through the task however they saw fit within the parameters. I kept the pace by working the room and giving periodic announcements.
