Expanding student knowledge bases through consistent and engaging recall practice
Artifact Justification
This artifact is evidence of a formative assessment method passed on to me by my mentor teacher. Quizlet allows users to create flashcard sets and provides a platform for collaborative recall practice competitions where students can race to match pairs of terms and meanings. Quizlet also gives you access to the hundreds of other flashcard sets other teachers have added to the site, and provides suggested images for the terms you add yourself. Adopting the practice of creating vocabulary sets for each unit, Quizlet provides a systemic way for me to collect, apply and share them with students.
This system is proof of my regular and committed use of formative assessments to inform my teaching decisions. Getting a visual measure of how well the class is grasping concepts and where individuals are at in overall mastery of the content allows me to direct learning to fill gaps and clarify key ideas.
