Examining Alternative Assessment Options that Showcase Human Skills

Artifact Justification

This list of Chat Gpt generated alternative assessment formats demonstrates how I have met this standard in several ways. First, it shows my diverse toolkit of assessment measures and the breadth of the means of assessment I plan to utilize in my teaching. Second, it represents my awareness of the shifting landscape in education and a world where AI shakes up the value of different skills. Asking students to write an essay, not only requires revised parameters such as writing it in class to avoid the use of bots, but also might not offer insight to the appropriate skills 21st century learners need. Most importantly this list exemplifies the theory that my practice rests upon.

I am currently implementing these styles of assessment in an alternative high school program offering credit / no credit, mastery-based, multidisciplinary projects and a performance graduation pathway. My students are over 50% Native, living in the tribal community and have various opportunities to receive credit for different cultural activities they engage in. Seeing these more nuanced assessments in action inspires my practice and drives me to always reiterate and improve my summative assessments.
